What is Love?

“What is Love?” isn't this the only question haunting us (humans) from thousands of years. Making us wonder, worry and puzzled about this question. Many Historians, poets, philosophers, writers, artists have spent their lifetime in order to find the right answer to this question, but do they have succeeded in answering this question and is there truly an answer for this question.

What is it exactly that we call love which have a great powerful control over us to make us feel most happy to miserable within fraction of second’s. Is there really a definition of love out there which will fit to everyone who says he or she’s been in love or is in love regardless of their ethnicity, religion and where these people in love geographically located are or age group they belonged in.

What is this word made of four letter really mean to us. Who comes to our minds when we are faced with this question? Is it a girl next door, or person you dating or married or a complete stranger who has no idea about how you feel towards them. Or is it someone you can’t ever be with due to it’s been forbidden or taboo of you being with that person by society.

Many artist, lyricist, painters, Actors, writers, and singer tried to answer this question and publicly admitted that this question has been an inspiration for their work. But do we all agree with what they had to say about this question or we just live in the moment, never bothering ourselves with trying to answer this question. And is there really a definition of love that fits to all of human kind. And is there then what is it? After spending countless hours going through many songs, essays, quotes, lyrics, poems, novels, books, paintings on same question in order to find a suitable and satisfactory answer to this question(what is love) I came across an ancient description of love by great poet of his time named Plato which I think pretty much defines what love is and satisfy at least my minds all the question regarding this most mysterious phenomenon.

According to definition of love from dialogues accounts in Plato’s Symposium, when we human began our life we didn’t looked the way we do now. Each of us had four legs, four arms, and two faces on cylindrical neck. And with all of our appendages were gifted with great powers. We could run faster and were mighty in strength and force; so mighty that we plotted against god Zeus to throw Zeus and other gods from their thrones and rule the three worlds by ourselves. When Zeus came to know of this plot against him he became so angry that he sliced all humans into half and had Apollo turn our faces around and tie up the cut skin in the middle, forming a navel. And banished us to earth, and since then the one half is longing to reconnect with the other half which shared one body. And since this day we been in constant quest to find the other half of ourselves and being whole again. Therefore we humans spent our entire lifetime in search of ‘The Right One’ or Perfect one. And until we find it our heart is at displease. This search for our other half takes us sometime around the world or sometime we find it just besides us. Sometime it finds us or sadly it takes an entire lifetime for us to realize who is our right one.

And sex is just our body’s desperate act of trying to break that knot Apollo tied and be whole again achieving the oneness or wholeness again. And only way to find who your other is half is by following your heart. Seeing where it finds a peace. With whom our soul stops this never ending quest at once. After finding our perfect half we again become invincible and fear in our heart gets replaced by confidence, uncertainty gets filled with dreams and with the right half of us besides us we began to feel nothing is impossible for us and with their support we began to conquer the world just to place it at the feet of our other half or the one. We begins to believe in possibilities and in problems we start to see opportunities.

Who been in love need no examples of what I am saying but who are not need it to believe that once they found the other half of their selves nothing is impossible for them too so just take a look at Bollywood’s king of romance “Shahrukh Khan’s” life. He left his home to find his other half “Gauri” and after being with her he became an unstoppable force which climbed on new heights of acting and becoming a legend in Bollywood.

This definition is more satisfying than any other I came across during my research because it not only explain how we feel when in love, How one with support from their true love can achieve great things it also explains why one feel jealous, desperate, and possessive in love. Once we found our true half our soul, our heart want nothing other than being with them therefore when we are not around them we feel sad and when we are around them we feel need of hold on to them so tight that they may never leave us. This gives birth to our constant need of being with them when they are away on work, with other friends. Constant calling and texting could be our way of making them know how much we need them but sadly it send very wrong signals and can make our loved ones label us with being possessive or jealous. Our hearts is in constant fear that which is our true half can be confused by someone else as their true half and taken away from us. This feeling is hidden so deep inside our hearts that it takes so much time to make ourselves realize that which is our true half is theyvwill never leave us for someone else. And if it leaves us it was never our true half in a first place.

People may judge when they see very attractive women with not so attractive man or vice versa. An old man with young women but not me because I only see two souls desperate to be together regardless of what others might think about them. Therefore when people in love see their partners they don’t see the attractive women or man they see the most beautiful soul inside them and being around that soul is way more important to them than anything. People always say love is blind but I believe love gives one divine sight which make one in love see the persons soul and true nature than persons deceiving outlooks. That’s why people in love open up to their partner telling them things they work so hard to hide from everyone else revealing them their true self letting them know what  and they really are by trusting in them that their love will accept them as they are rather than as they represent themselves.

I have only one advice for readers and that is to make sure that the one you in love with is the right one. And when you find the Right One hold onto them till death do you apart because it’s sad enough that we have to repeat the process of finding the right one again in our after life or next life till the eternity. We don’t want to repeat it in the same lifetime. If you think it’s the right one you should hold onto them letting them know on every step of life how important they are for you and why they are the center of your world and how every step took together is an adventure and a quest to rule the world together. We may repeat this process over and over again till the worlds end but we only get one lifetime to spend with our other half so when you do find the right person, the true half of you, you should take all the risk it needs to be taken to be with them. Because at the end it’s all about the love. May you all find love and peace in your life....
